This is America, Deal With it.

It is amazing that more than two hundred years ago our forefathers put in place a constitution that still stands in place and can still be used with our changing society we live in today.  What would our forefathers think about changing the constitution, laws, and putting the government in total control?
First of all I would like to thank the women that stood behind these men who pushed us to break away from the control of a monarchy, that led to the tossing of the tea into the Boston Harbor. It was the women that originally were signing agreements to not drink tea as long as it was taxed.  This is an example of why we live in America, choice, but many choices come with a price and laws to protect our freedoms.
What has the American Disabilities Act created for our disabled, access to public restrooms, without this law it would leave many in wheel chairs unable to use public restrooms.   There are gun laws to protect the innocent as well as the people that wish to carry them, we might be living in the Wild West or a county similar to Afghanistan, where it can be perceived from the news that all evil people carry massive killing guns.
One of the most perplexing statements made is when someone says how they hate America, just as long as they do not commit treason  they are allowed to stand anywhere in America and make that statement.  I would like for them to be sent out of this country and required to live in ……lets suggest Afghanistan, and see how they like American after about a year. There is no other country in the world that allows this statement to be publicly made about the country in which they are living.
My children are allowed to grow up and attend college and receive a degree in any field in which they chose. They are then allowed to marry, live with any person they choose or not. When they work there are laws in place to protect their wages and number of hours required to work for fair wages.
My husband is allowed to own and drive his personal vehicle to a job he chooses, bring home a paycheck and spend the money in any way he chooses. He is able to purchase a house of any square footage he chooses, if he is able to secure a loan for this home. He is able to watch his sports programs on his television which he receives from satellite, with anywhere from two to three hundred channels at any given time of day. Without government laws and regulations we would not have any of these things or prices could be out of control?  Everything in our daily lives in some way is protected by a law and allows us the freedom to possess the finer things in life and the ability to believe and achieve.
Yes we pay taxes in America, these taxes cover many things in our nation anything from roads to the missions the space station. Taxes is a sore subject for some because the opinion is that to many taxes are paid, I myself would like to pay less, but death and taxes are two inevitable.   I have a problem with paying my taxes and watch others get a refund for money that is more than they paid.
Without laws we could possibly not have the road systems and not be able to travel coast to coast.  We could be controlled at all points of our destinations and not allowed to travel out of our state.  In some cases without laws pedestrians could be still standing on the curb or no crosswalks to cross.
Stand up and be proud to live in America, laws and rules are put in place to protect us, and sometimes we do not always have to agree.  Remember only in America if you do not agree you are able to have an opinion, and if you have the knowledge and ability things can be changed.  Only in America can we live and dream, wish a wish, have a vision and strive to achieve sometimes the impossible.

The One Who Screams the Loudest Gets the Prize

First of all let me say there have been a few occasions that I have been in this situation with things that I have purchased and gone defunct just after the warranty.  To call a company and be directed overseas to a country that does not understand the English language that is spoken in America and try to explain what I want is exhausting.  The reel that runs through my mind is the person that I am having a conversation with has been trained to read a script and has no clue what I am even talking about, and every time I have another question, the pause, then another scripted answer.  I have learned to ask to speak to supervisors when I am having trouble communicating with the person I am speaking to and if that does not help ask for another supervisor.  There are many companies that are using out of country call centers and I wonder what the savings really are for them, do most people just become so frustrated and give up and lose out on what they need to accomplish.  Just having conversations with people that I know that are in these same situations some give up and some threaten to fly to India and wreak havoc on their county, it seems to be always the one that screams the loudest that gets what they want.
I have been on the other end of the situations with a dissatisfied customer staring at me with flames flaring out their nostrils, not even sure what they are even mad about, again the one that screams the loudest gets what they want, and children learn this at an early age.  Most of the time I would just wait until they are through screaming or ranting and calmly ask, “now what can I do to make this all better for you.”  Most were not sure what to say because they expect me to be a big bully and not let them have their way and most of the time they were not sure how to handle me being calm with them. I would take great pleasure in allowing them to walk away thinking they got their way, when in actually I just followed the rules, which allowed them to think they got what they wanted.
There were occasions that customers were sent away angry and threatened to call my supervisor, I would simply give them the number and encourage them call.  This was always the last resort when I knew without a doubt that I would be right because they had the information that allowed me to be right, I like being right.
I am not the best crook and my mother calls me Fort Knox, because I do not divulge information I have been given, I would hold what I have been told to my grave.  I have been likened to a “you just think you are all that,” no I have to do what is right for me and look at myself every day, regardless if I like it or not it all comes out in the end, nice guys can finish first.
So to answer the question what would I do in this situation; I do not know what I would do if I was the employee without knowing how things work at this company.  I do know that I would do all I was allowed with what the company would allow me to do.  As for being the caller, I have been that caller on a few occasions, just keep asking for the supervisor and many times I get what I want, and it didn’t take a scare tactic.

The Varmint Eradicator

Mr. Granger has a big alligator problem and Billy needs help redesigning his web site.  First of all we need to take into consideration the people that will be visiting the web site, and on this occasion it is Mr. Granger with a big alligator problem.  The visitors would be searching for how to blow things up and kill things.
I would design the web site with the thought the viewers are gun toting, hunting, beer drinkers, with a big desire to blow things up.  The home page would be a hunting woods, swamp, or gun range.  There would be sound effects that would capture the visitor’s attention, such as explosions and animals running and screaming for their lives.  Billy would drive up in a big pickup truck covered in mud and with his redneck-hillbilly vernacular welcome you to his home.  The truck would be sporting a gun rack and the back would be loaded with men off to eradicate the varmint that is doing an injustice to us all. The colors of the site would be woodsy, browns and greens with a horizon that would change according to the time of day; sunrise, sunset, and even night.
The tabs would consist of, Home, Exterminators, Pests, Extermination, Products, Events and even a Blue Beer Sponsor tab. The Home tab would always allow the visitor to return to the home page and every time it returned to the home page it would be with a big bang. The Exterminators tab would allow you to view the people who are involved in the extermination of the pest, including photos and profiles.  The Pest tab would include animals, rodents, reptiles, and varmints the viewer is looking to eradicate. The Extermination tab would be the way Billy and his exterminators blow things up or choice of extermination. The Products tab would cover items Billy would sell from his web site as well as links to other web sites. Billy could sell products that would interest the visitor such as Food; including exotic and domestic, boots, coveralls, hats, t-shirts, guns, and even all terrain ATVs. The Events tab would cover events Billy is sponsoring and links to other competitions such as the Annual Big Gator Grill-off. The Beer Sponsor tab would be the Blue Ribbon tab for all those who love his beer and are interested in his sponsor.
The bottom of the page would consist of links to Contact Information, About Billy web site, Site Map, Security Information, and copyright information.

Jack Does the Right Thing

My hands are trembling as I feel the sweat running off my face; tick, tick, tick, as the sweat drops onto the floor.
“Lee County Sheriff's Office, how may I direct your call?” the female voice heard at the other end of the phone.  Maybe I should just hang up, no just answer the lady, I tell myself.  The fear is so great that my heart is pounding out of my chest and right out my throat.  The thought keeps going through my head, what if Mr. Hughes is listening to my calls.  I hang up in fear that Mr. Hughes will find out before I can get to someone to stop this murder, and the very thought Mr. Hughes has done this before.  What shall I do now and where should I go.
The hour starts to tick by, I want to call, but that Hanna Simpson; has been mean to me, maybe she deserves this, maybe this would be the payback for what she did to me last summer.  When I was cleaning her office and she threw the garbage can at me and bruised my arm and telling me I was useless and could never be more than a cleaning man.  In December of last year that Hanna Simpson went to Mr. Hughes and told him I was going through her things and her computer and almost had me fired, now I know it was Mr. Hughes himself, and maybe that is why he told me not to worry and that he would take care of this himself.  He gave me a raise and told me it was for having to put up with such an irrational employee and it would never happen again.
I must find a place to make a call, a place that Mr. Hughes would never think of seeing me, and not able to listen in on my call.  I may be a cleaning man, but stupid my no means, I watch a lot of CSI and know what happens to people that talk to the police.
I grab my keys and out the door I fly, but where do I go, he should not suspect me unless he goes looking for the shredded papers.  I remind myself that gets emptied every night and the recycling gets picked up at 3:00 am.  Where do I go, what do I do?  I know I will go to the mall in Tampa, which will get me out of the area and far away from here.
My cell phone rings, it is work, why are they calling me on my day off, and how do they know my cell number?  I answer trying to be normal and holding down that pounding in my chest.  “Hello,” I answer slowly, it is Mr. Hughes, stay calm I tell myself, he is calling to say that I will not need to come to work tomorrow the office will close for one day for a termite inspection and I could return to work on Tuesday.
I blink my eyes and realize that I have come to a complete stop in the middle of the interstate.  “That is it; regardless of what that Hanna Simpson has done to me I am calling right now.”  I exit the interstate to find a phone that I can make a call, I hope there are pay phones available.  After finding a pay phone at the Days Inn, I insert my credit card and slowing dial the number the voice answers again; “Lee county Sheriff’s Office, how may I direct your call?”   I ask for a detective, and I am directed to Detective Johnson who immediately wants to meet with me, I tell him I am out of the county right now and they will need to send someone to meet me.  Within three hours I am meeting with Detective Johnson and he is assuring me that they are not taking this lightly.  They want me to go back to work as usual. How can I go there knowing what I know and this could be happening right now.  They send me to a hotel to check in where I can be safe and they assured me that the FBI has been contacted and if this is going to happen today they will be there to catch the act.
The hours slowly drag by, like a glacier melting at the South Pole, what should I do, I am going mad just sitting here waiting.  I sit on the bed and after flipping through the cannels I fall asleep as if I had taken sleeping pills.
Morning arrives with the sun peaking through the curtain that was not quite closed, shining right into my eyes, with the sound of the news entering my ears like driving nails into a log;  Mr. Venton Hughes, Hanna Simpson, the anchor announces.  The FBI was on scene Sunday night when a Hanna Simpson was being held hostage by an unknown person, and the news crew was on scene at Mr. Hughes home for the arrest.
I ask myself, “Did I do a good deed?” “Yes I did.” I may not have a job, but I did the right thing.

Tim Watkins, The Employee Who Knew Too Much

There is more than just an ethical aspect of this situation there is also a legal aspect. First Tim Watkins is not a faithful and trustworthy employee; he is a disaster waiting to happen, and bringing his “main squeeze” into his web of lies and deceit, he has now compromised her life. He has passed all ethics rules on emails by using the company email for personal use and sharing company confidential information with a nonemployee. Tim was trespassing when he broke into his boss’s office and reading papers that were not intended for his viewing, the memo Tim reads on his boss’s desk should have never been left in plain sight for anyone to read, this was confidential information and had access codes to access high security areas. We can be sure to say that Tim lacks personal restraint, not only has he broken into his boss’s office he has also taken the information he gained and went to the basement. The name calling of his boss, everyone has had things to say about a boss, but to put it in print this way puts it out there for the whole world to view, and when it comes out of a mouth and in print it can never be taken back. After exploring the basement Tim has now brought into his plan a member of the military, we can assume this by Tim using the word soldier.

I can see this all going very badly for his “main squeeze” and his old high school buddy, because when the federal government is involves there are rules that are unknown to all mankind, they have their own rules. If this is such a secret operation I see Tim just disappearing along with the “main squeeze”, the email, and his old high school buddy. The government would not play they would all be taken to some remote island that is unknown to anyone to be left there or their remains be tied to the bottom of the ocean, never cross the federal government or share government secrets the government has ways of dealing with people like Tim.

If they were to arrest Tim, once the information was brought to the officials, his “main squeeze” would also be an accessory as well as Theodore, they would all go down together. The email would be cold hard evidence: the email shows the entire story, maps out who/whom, what, why, when, and how he executed his plan, therefore; would be evident enough to convict him in the court of law.

With our high tech society that we live in now people must realize when information is shared over the internet and through email, this all can be used in a court of law as evidence. Just because you push the delete button, it is still out there and can be retrieved, whether it is for you or against you.

First Blog Due Sepember 8, 2010

There are many aspects to this email that was posted on Professor Parliski's site, ENC1102Tech; first the legal aspect, second the ethical aspect, and finally the email etiquette aspect.  Complete response to be posted in my second posting, this is just to see my words in print and what this looks like on my blog.
